CHINCOTEAGUE

  • Wander around the quaint village of Chincoteague with its many gift boutiques, craft shops and restaurants. Stop by the Chamber of Commerce at 6733 Maddox Boulevard for brochures 757.336.6161.
  • Take a morning walk around Snow Goose Pool or hike the Isolated Atlantic Ocean Beaches and secluded Barrier Islands.
  • Visit the wild & undeveloped Chincoteague National Wildlife Refuge to see the Assateague Lighthouse in operation since 1867, wild ponies and some great hiking & nature trails.
  • See shellfish and waterman exhibits at the Oyster & Maritime Museum or mariners exhibits, waterfowl art and decoys at the Refuge Waterfowl Museum.
  • Visit a high-tech museum of aeronautical and space exhibits at the NASA Wallops Visitors Center on Wallops Island.
  • Go kayaking on the Eastern Shore of Virginia backwaters. Rent a Two-person Kayak, Canoe, Pontoon Boat or join a guided Eco-Tour. Hop aboard a local Narrated Sightseeing or Sunset Champagne Cruise or a Wildlife Tour.
  • Rent a couple of bikes and explore the 37 miles of beaches and dunes at the Assateague Island National Seashore.
  • Enjoy a movie at the Island Roxie Theatre.

TANGIER ISLAND

  • Visit this small waterman's village, known as "Soft Shell Capitol of the World". Only accessible by boat. Catch a cruise to Tangier Island at the Onancock Town Wharf.
  • Stroll the beach and rent a Bike or Golf Cart to explore the island.
  • Have lunch at The Chesapeake House or Fisherman's Corner and stop in the gift shops on Main Street.

ACCOMACK COUNTY

  • Take a Driving Tour of the Barrier Islands and Small Fishing Villages along the 70 mile long peninsula forming the Eastern Shore.
  • Take the walking tour of Onancock to see the 300-year-old town's historic buildings including Hopkins & Bros. Store and the Kerr Place, a 1799 historical mansion and museum.
  • Pick up a walking tour brochure and tour the historic Colonial downtown area of Accomack and the Debtor's Prison.
  • Stop by the restored Victorian town of Parksley and see exhibits and railway artifacts at the Eastern Shore Railway Museum.
  • Visit the Stoney Point Decoy Factory in Oak Hall.
  • See bronze statues of wildlife and waterfowl at the Turner Sculpture Museum & Foundry in Melfa.
  • See the small scenic fishing village of Wachapreague and take a kayaking excursion or charter a fishing boat.
